Vote Yes On Prop 61!
On April 7, Marion and Ralls County voters have a chance to make our roads safer.
Voting YES on Prop 61 will pave the way to build the Hannibal Expressway, reduce dangerous truck traffic in our neighborhoods and school zones, and deliver long-overdue safety improvements to the Highway 61 corridor.
Now is the time to turn this decades-old idea into real action!
Why Vote Yes
For nearly 30 years, U.S. Highway 61 has been recognized as a serious safety concern. Approximately 15,000 vehicles travel the corridor daily — nearly one in four are heavy trucks — and crash rates exceed statewide averages.
Prop 61 is our community's opportunity to finally address this problem through a temporary, locally controlled ½-cent sales tax that unlocks state matching funds to build the Hannibal Expressway.
Here’s why you should vote YES on Prop 61:
Safer Roads for Everyone
The expressway will reroute high-speed truck traffic away from city streets, school zones, and neighborhoods, reducing crashes and fatalities along the corridor.
Protects Our Kids
Highway 61 currently cuts through school zones serving Hannibal Middle School and Hannibal High School. The expressway separates heavy freight from student and family traffic.
A Smart Investment, NOT a Permanent Tax
The ½-cent sales tax — just 50 cents on every $100 spent — includes a built-in sunset and unlocks a 50/50 cost share with MoDOT. Without local funding, this project cannot move forward.
Proven Results
Communities like Kirksville, Maryville, and Mexico, Missouri have seen measurable safety improvements after building similar bypass projects.
